Koirala assures NC committed to statute implementation; Sitaula for correcting defects of constitution

Koirala at parliamentKathmandu / October 20: Nepali Congress President and former Prime Minister Sushil Koirala has said that his party was fully committed to implementing the new constitution.

Speaking in an interaction in the capital on Tuesday, he said that Nepali Congress would not remain hesitant for institutional development of democracy and implementation of constitution.

The former Prime Minister also suggested the government to immediately pass the bills on constitution amendment and reconstruction authority. Effective diplomatic efforts should be forwarded to end the obstructions in the Nepal-India border, Koirala added.

He also reiterated the rhetoric of talks, consensus, coordination, reconciliation and unity for country’s development. On the occasion, the NC President urged the agitating parties in Terai-Madhes to seek consensus through talks.

Meanwhile addressing a program in Inaruwa Nepali Congress General Secretary Krishna Prasad Sitaula said that if there were any defects in the new constitution, it could be corrected through political consensus.

Sitaula claimed that the constitution had addressed the rights of all the communities. As the constitution is progressive the reasonable demands can be incorporated through amendment, Sitaula added.

He further said the federal modality, provision on citizenship and the form of governance were the best. It is the duty of all the political parties to nurture the constitution in its nascent stage, he stressed. RSS
