Five national players accused of match-fixing produced before court
Kathmandu / October 27: Five former national football players including the team captain, who were arrested on October 14 on the charge of match-fixing, were produced before the Special Court in the Capital on Tuesday to seek extension of time in police custody.
Senior Superintendent of Police Sarbendra Khanal said that they could not produce the players before the court on time due to the closure of administrative works of the court during the Dashain holidays.
He added that the five players have been charged with treason. A team from the Metropolitan Police Crime Division arrested the national football team captain Sagar Thapa and other players Sandip Rai, Ritesh Thapa and Bikashman Singh Chhetri and Coach Anjan KC on the charge of match-fixing in various international matches since 2008.
