SC seeks details of steps taken to open blockade

Supreme CourtKathmandu / October 30: The Supreme Court has directed the government to submit the details of the steps and ideas adopted to open the continuing ‘undeclared blockade’ at the major trade points at Nepal-India borderline on Friday.

A single bench led by Chief Justice Kalyan Shrestha issued the instruction to the government to submit written answer and be present within the next 10 days at the Court on efforts being made to remove the obstruction on the supply of essential goods including fuel products.

The instruction is in response to a writ petition filed by Constitutional Legal Practitioners’ Forum Chairman Dr Chandra Kanta Gyawali and Forum for Protection of Consumers’ Rights Chairman Jyoti Baniya underlining the difficulty seen in people’s daily lives with the failure to take substantive steps to open the trade embargo.

The petitioners have mentioned Council of Ministers, Office of the Prime Minister and the Cabinet, Foreign Ministry, Home Ministry, Ministry for Commerce and Supply and Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) as the defendants. RSS
