NHRC appeals UDMF for an end to vandalism

NHRCKathmandu / February 4: National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Thursday appealed to the United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) to immediately put a halt on the acts of vandalism.

In a press statement issued by Commission Spokesperson Mohana Ansari, NHRC said the UDMF cadres’ act of barring the leaders and activists of various political parties from entering Dhanusha district and vandalizing their residences and properties, and resorting to arson attacks was against democratic norms and values. Ansari appealed to the UDMF to instantly put an end to such acts.

The NHRC also appealed to the government and the agitators to exercise restraint to avert clashes and to not take actions resulting in the death of commoners. It further drew the attention of the government to protect the right to agitate through peaceful assemblage and seek solution immediately through dialogue and negotiations.

It has also called on the government to provide cost-free treatment of the injured agitators and security personnel. During inspection, the Commission has come across the fact that Nepali Congress lawmaker was unable to come out of the residence due to Front’s obstruction, it is stated. RSS
