NC youth leaders urge the party to focus on policy; NC to use e-voting during the convention

Nepali CongressKathmandu, Feb 26: Nepali Congress (NC) youth leaders have said the party’s 13th general convention should not only be meant for electing a person but for charting out an effective policy.

At a face-to-face programme organized by the Reporters’ Club here on Friday, they voiced concern over the relegation of the politics of thought with all-pervasive factional feud.

The sister organizations of the party have been run based on power sharing deal since long, they said, warning the leadership that questions would raise challenging party’s democratic image if things were not mended.

Central member Min Biswokarma said the upcoming leadership of the party should be competent enough to institutionalize the achievements such as federalism and inclusive democratic republic.

Former President of Nepal Students Union and NC central member Pradeep Poudel said announcement of candidacies from leaders has been merely for reaching to top positions so that whoever wins in the election would not make any difference from ideological ground.

Youth leader Biswo Prakash Sharma said the wrong practice of keeping youths in reserve pool should be put to an end and stressed that the youth should be given a chance to lead the party.

Mahasamiti member duo Mahesh Thapaliya and Tilak Rupali underscored that the party should evaluate the cadres with sacrifice and capacity.

Meanwhile, NC is to switch to e-voting system in its forthcoming 13th General Convention scheduled to be held from March 3-6.

Preparations have been made for conducting the election for the party new leadership during the General Convention through the e- voting, said Central Election Committee coordinator Radheshyam Adhikari.

E-voting is meant for conducting the election and achieving the results in short time. The voting machine will be put on display at the party central office from Friday for orienting the General Convention representatives.

The party has earlier decided not to paste posters and do wall painting for the general convention. This is good move of the party as most of the parties make the city ugly ahead of their conventions by pasting posters and wall paintings. RSS
