Naya Shakti will be top party within five years: Subedi

Navaraj SubediKathmandu : Nabaraj Subedi is known as an intellectual communist leader. He joined student politics from his college life. He was very bright in his studies and continued politics along with studies with the view of eradicating all the injustices of society. Although he is from an affluent family, he always stood for ending all forms of discrimination in society and also to end the gap between the rich and the poor people. He also served as a lecturer in Butwal Multiple Campus before joining full time politics. He has become Member of Parliament from Pyuthan twice. He was a senior leader of UCPN-Maoist before joining the Naya Shakti (New Force). He is quite confident that the Naya Shakti will be able to fulfill the long dream of the Nepali people to have a prosperous society. In this context, we talked with him about the various aspects of Naya Shakti (New Force). Here are the excerpts:

What is Naya Shakti (New Force) doing at the moment and when it will come up as a political party?

Currently, the Naya Shakti is carrying out its campaign nationwide. We are enthusiastic with the positive response of people within the country and abroad. The new party will be declared formally on April this year (Baisakh 2073 B.S.)

Although the party has been named as Naya Shakti, don’t you think it is a form of the UCPN-Maoist party as most people are from that party?

Naya Shakti is really a new force and it is not in any form another Maoist party. Although the Maoist principle to some extent helped to transform Nepali society from feudal relations, it’s not the sole thing that can lead Nepal in the future days. Things are growing in new perspectives today in comparison to those of the 20th century, so, the need at the moment is Naya Shakti which will guide Nepal and Nepali people towards a positive direction.

It seems that independent people did not join Naya Shakti in line with your expectations. Why do you think so?

No, it is not true as many independent personalities have joined Naya Shakti up to now and more people are gradually joining. We are encouraged from the participation of independent personalities from different sectors of society.

What is your message to the people living abroad, who are just considering you as another form of Maoist party and hesitating to join your force?

We are gradually extending the international relations. We have had many discourses with different political forces abroad. We have, so far, extended our campaign in 12 different countries and the trend is increasing.

There are many negative comments about the Naya Shakti, how do you take these comments?

Since we are a new force and have endeavored to form a new wave in Nepali society, many people have welcomed us. However, some people are suspicious about us. It’s a common phenomenon in politics. Things will be quite acceptable if people take the real meaning and understand our agenda. Our main agendas are national development and prosperity, so, if people really study our agendas in-depth, it will clear their misunderstandings and support our endeavor.

Many groups are mulling to form other Naya Shaktis in Nepal, so, how do you plan to work together with these groups?

It is positive that the discussion about Naya Shakti is ongoing at different levels. If different sections of the society discuss and see the necessity of anew force, it is quite good. We think we are open with those who are anxious to change country from poverty, unemployment and so on. We do not run away from consensus and co-work and we are really positive to join hands with those who are motivated from the motif of positive change in the society.

What will be the economic source of running the party and where will the Naya Shakti party be in the next five years in the political space of Nepal?

We will mobilize resources from our supporters. We have already publicized the modality for collecting support from well-wishers. We assure all people that the income and expense of the party will be transparent. Regarding our position, we aim to make Naya Shakti as the top party within five years.
