10-foot alligator captured at Florida school
March 18: A 10-foot alligator paid a visit to students at a private school in Lakeland on Thursday, before being wrangled by trappers.
Stacey Lynn, a parent at Geneva Classical Academy in Lakeland, shared video of the capture and joked about the gator’s presence.
“You might be from Florida if you have a gator (9ft 11in) in your child’s school parking lot at dismissal,” she wrote.
Video shows the large gator hiding underneath a police cruiser while snapping and swatting its tail at a trapper. The trapper then prods the gator with a pole to guide it away from the vehicle before attempting to lasso it.
Many students, parents and faculty members looked on as the gator was corralled and eventually captured.
No one was hurt during the incident and the school jokingly cited the event as a learning experience for the students.
“Our students received a good Polk County education today: how to trap a 9’11” gator!” Geneva Classical Academy’s Facebook page wrote. UPI
