ADB shows interest in providing support in infrastructure projects

adbKathmandu / March 25: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has shown interest in extending support to infrastructure development including in roadway, transport and railway construction.

ADB Vice-president Wencai Zhang expressed the ADB’s willingness to provide assistance in this sector in course of his meeting with the Axting Prime Minister and Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Bijaya Kumar Gachchhadar, at the latter’s office today.

Personal secretary of the DPM, Tilak Poudel, informed that the ADB has shown this interest in order to support the graduation of Nepal to the status of a developed country from the under developed one by the year 2022.

The ADB Vice-president shared to the Minister for Physical Infrastructure that the Bank was thinking of supporting in the infrastructure development aimed at meeting the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.

Acting Secretary at the Ministry Devendra Karki, the chief of the Foreign Aid Division Bishnu Om Bade, ADB Project Director at the Department of Roads Keshav Kumar Sharma, among other officials were present during the meeting.

On the occasion, Project Director Sharma had placed a request for one billion US Dollars for infrastructure development. To this, the ADB Vice-president suggested that a written proposal be forwarded to the Bnak in this regard.

Vice-president Zhang who came on a visit to Nepal on March 24 is scheduled to observe some selected projects. He will conclude his visit on March 28, the Ministry stated. RSS
