Irrigation to boost agriculture: Minister Yadav

irrigationKathmandu /April 7: Minister for Irrigation Umesh Kumar Yadav has said government was planning to boost agriculture production through irrigation schemes.

At an interaction organized on the 63rd anniversary of the Irrigation Department and the Irrigation Day on Thursday, Minister Yadav said the a prosperous Tarai special irrigation programme was launched in the southern plains in view of the national production. The programme would be taken to hilly regions too, he added.

He suggested for renaming the Irrigation Ministry as the water resource ministry garnering suggestions from all sides. Yadav also pointed out the need of marking the Irrigation Day in a grand manner with proper coordination among the Ministry of Land Reform and Management and the Ministry of Agriculture.

Minister Yadav said every State agency should ensure representation of Madhesi community so that it would help reduce discrimination against Madhesi people. RSS
