Seto Machhindranath jatra kicks off
Kathmandu / April 14: The Seto Machhindranath jatra- a traditional festival of towing the chariot of God Machhindranath- kicked off in the capital city Thursday.
On the occasion, President Bidya Devi Bhandari observed the towing of the chariot of God Machhindranath at Asan Thursday evening. The chariot was pulled from Timdhara Pathsala of Durbarmarga on Thursday itself.
Seto Machhindranath is considered to be the god of rain and good harvest. The chariot of white Machhindranath will be taken to Hanumandhoka Friday.
The locals dressed in traditional Newari attire welcomed President Bhandari at Asan. After observing the Seto Machhindranath, the Head of the State greeted the public and devotees attending the event.
On the occasion, Annapurna Gyanmala Bhajan Samuha, a group of hymn singers, sung the hymns in Newari language. On the day of the Chaite Dashain every year, Seto Machhindranth is kept in the chariot and towed through various routes in heart of the Kathmandu Valley. RSS
