Media Nepal demands effective implementation of Minimun wage; ABC TV asked to apologize

ABC TV LogoKathmandu / May 12: Media Nepal, a media organization close to Rastriya Prajatantra Party Nepal, drew the attention of the Minister for Information and Communications Sherdhan Rai towards the effective implementation of the minimum wage the government fixed for the media workers.

The government recently decided Rs 19,500 as the minimum wage for media persons working in various media outlets across the country.

A team from the organization visited Minister Rai at his office in Singha Durbar on Thursday and demanded for a strict monitoring of the implementation of the minimum wage for the media person, according to Radhika Joshi, central member of Media Nepal.

They also requested with the concerned authority under the Ministry to distribute press pass to the technical staffers at the media house.

Meanwhile, the Press Council Nepal has on Thursday directed the ABC Television to seek an apology over the interview with CK Raut, which it said, has hurt the sovereignty of the country. The interview had been aired in the ‘ABC Watch’ programme of the Television channel.

The meeting of the Ethics Monitoring Sub-Committee of the Council asked the ABC television to seek forgiveness from the Nepalis. The ABC Television had telecasted the interview with CK Raut on March 30, 2016.

The Council had sought clarification from the Television, saying geographical integrity and social harmony was disrupted and journalism code of conduct was seriously violated by the interview. In response, the ABC Television said, “It is the individual who is making remark that is responsible for the same and that the interview of CK Raut had been aired following the natural process of incorporating the views of the Nepali people.”

Terming the response as unsatisfactory, the Council has asked the Television authorities to seek an apology for the same. RSS
