Madan Bhandari National Journalism Award to Karki; NPU establishes revolving fund

Photojournalism AwardKathmandu / May 15: Prime Minister and CPN (UML) chair KP Sharma Oli has honoured photo journalist Chandra Shekhar Karki with the ‘Madan Bhandari National Journalism Award-2073’ at the party central office, Dhumbarahi today.

The award was instituted by the Publicity Department of the party. The award carries a purse of Rs 51,000 and felicitation letter.

On the occasion, PM Oli said that the award has proved that the UML was the party of people. In another note, he added that the upcoming budget will materialize the policies and programmes and it will expedite the developmental activities.

He added that the government was working to reduce the poverty and generate the employment.

Similarly, the Publicity Department chief and party secretary Yogesh Bhattarai shared that the award was provided to photo journalist Karki for his valuable contribution to disseminate the photos of people’s leader Madan Bhandari in media.

He further said that the department has made preparation to provide financial support to two Masters level students of Mass Communication for their dissertation. A fund of Rs 1.5 million has been set up for the purpose.

Similarly, two journalists have been honoured in Bhaktapur today for their contribution in the journalism sector.

Ramesh Giri, associated with Rastriya Samachar Samiti and another journalist Durga Dulal were honoured for their contribution to sports through journalism at the concluding programme of the 2nd Anantalingeshwor National Shotokan Karate Championship, 2073 organised by Nepal Shotokan Karate Do Association in Bhaktapur today. Meanwhile, Myagdi branch of the Nepal Press Union has set up a revolving fund worth Rs 500,000.

NPU Myagdi branch secretary Nirmal Khatri said that the fund was set up to create a Journalism Award carrying a purse of Rs 20,000 to be given to two active journalists of the district every year.

Chairperson of the Nepal Women Association Bimala Gauchan and Nepali Congress Mahasamiti representative Dam Bahadur Garbuja have announced to provide Rs 1,01,000 and Rs 101,100 respectively to be deposited in the fund. RSS
