PM Oli confers Siddhicharan Award on Sikkim’s Chief Minister Chamling

Pawan ChamlingKathmandu / May 22: ‘Yugkavi Siddhicharan Award 2073’ has been conferred on Chief Minister of Sikkim and litterateur Pavan Chamling (Kiran) in the capital city today.

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli conferred on the award on Chamling’s representative, Biru Bangdel, amidst a programme in Kathmandu. The award carries the purse of Rs 100,000 and a certificate letter.

At a programme organized by Siddhicharan Foundation on the 105th birth anniversary of poet Siddhicharan Shrestha, PM Oli said the award to the chief minister from the neighbouring country also proves that ‘Nepal is a an accommodative and goodhearted country’ in the world.

Although Chamling has not Nepali citizenship, he loves Nepali language, PM Oli said, admiring that Pavan Chamling has not Nepali citizenship; he does not live in Nepal, but likes and loves Nepali language and culture much.”

He also reminded that Yugakavi Shrestha was jailed long back for working for the cause of justice.

Chamling’s representative Bangdel said, “Nepal and Sikkim are from different geography, but we are from same culture and same clan.”

On the occasion, Foundation’s Chairman Jagdish Shumser Rana recited the message of best wishes for the programme. According to Rana, Chamling has committed to visiting Nepal soon.

Similarly, Foundation’s protector and the son of poet Shrestha, Ravi Charan, reminded that Yugakavi Shrestha had written a poem ‘New Nepal’ seven decades back. He is the progressive poet, son Ravi Charan added.

Various literary works on poet Siddhicharan were also released at the programme. RSS
