PM urges CIAA to continue work

CIAAKathmandu / Oct 26: The commissioners of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), including the Officiating Commissioner Dip Basnyat, met with Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal today.

The meeting that took place at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers at Singh Durbar, dwelt on the situation following the registration of the impeachment proposal in Parliament against CIAA Chief Commissioner Lokman Singh Karki.

The Prime Minister’s press advisor Govinda Acharya said today’s meeting was part of a regular meeting, adding that in the meeting the Prime Minister had urged the Commission to continue its works as an independent and autonomous constitutional body.

The PM had also expressed the commitment of political parties and the government to extend full cooperation to the Commission in its works.

Karki is currently under suspension after 157 lawmakers from the CPN (UML) and the CPN (Maoist Centre) on October 19 moved an impeachment motion in Parliament against him. Basnyat is assuming the responsibilities of the Chief Commissioner on the basis of seniority. RSS
