Govt for reoperation of defunct industries: Minister Joshi

Kathmandu / Oct 27: The government is to re-operate the state-owned industries closed over the time for different reasons.
At a press conference organized by the Ministry of Industry here on Thursday, Minister for Industry Nabindra Raj Joshi reiterated that the government was preparing to reopen the industries that have remained shut since long.

According to Minister Joshi, the Hetauda Textile Industry, which has remained closed since 2000, will be brought into operation with joint investment of Nepal Army, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force.

Similarly, closed since 2009, Butwal Spinning Mills is going to be leased to private sector for reoperation. The Birgunj Sugar Mills will be re-operated in similar manner, Minister Joshi shared.

A majority of the employees, including laborers, in the Birgunj Sugar Mills, shut since 2004, have retired and 193 employees have sought legal recourse against the golden handshake scheme of the Mills, it was shared.

Minister Joshi said, “The Ministry of Industry has already forwarded the process to re-operate the Gorakhkali Rubber Industry and Nepal Orient Magnesite. The Ministry will unveil action-plan for the same within two weeks.” RSS
