Works being carried out for planned development of remote areas, reiterates PM

Taplejung / Nov 22: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said the government shall give special priority to the construction of a road up to Tiptala of Olanchungola in the district which shares border with Tibet.

The Prime Minister said this while inaugurating the diamond jubilee celebration of the first ascent on Mt Kanchanjanga here Tuesday.

He said special efforts would be undertaken for the construction of infrastructures as the Olanchungola highway linking Tibet, the Tamor corridor and bridge at Dobhan for the development of tourism in Taplejung.

Noting that he was aware the life of the locals was comparatively difficult for lack of infrastructure development, PM Dahal said the government was working for planned development of the remote and backward regions.

He remarked that climate change has become a major challenge for tourism development and that the government was aware towards the need of formulating climate adaptation plan to tackle this challenge. “The impact of climate change is especially seen more in the mountainous region and this has directly affected the life of the people living in this region,” he said.

The Prime Minister stated that the government was committed also on rehabilitating the people displaced due to the floods and landslide last year.

The Minister for Labour, Secretary at the Ministry of Tourism, the chairman of the Tourism Board and the chairman of the Development Committee under Legislature-Parliament were also present in the programme. The Kanchanjanga Diamond Jubilee Celebration that started at Suketar airport from today will last till Thursday. RSS
