Snowfalls continue to paralise life in Karnali region

SnowfallJumla / March 12: Snowfalls followed by rains since Thursday continue to affect normal life in Karnali region.

Cold triggered by snowfalls has an effect on the movements of people while there is an absence of sun for the past three-four days.

Flights have come to a halt at Jumla Airport for the past five days, affecting hundreds of passengers heading to their destinations. Vehicles on long routes have not plied the road while vehicles on short routes that are operational are struggling to find passengers due to cold.

Various areas of the region are covered in snow. Various industries have been shut for the past three days while government and non-governmental offices have witnessed a slim presence of service seekers.

The sky will not be cleared fully today and the cold continues to linger, said AP Chaurasiya, Chief of the Climate Field Office, Jumla.

Saturday recorded the maximum temperature of 7.8 degree Celsius while 97 milliliters rains occurred.

Today morning witnessed a minimum temperature of -2.5 degree Celsius, he said. Likewise, Khalanga, the district headquarters of Jumla, received 20.2 centimeters snowfalls today. Around four feet-deep snowfalls occurred in higher lands of Jumla, Kalikot and Mugu, said Chaurasiya.

Bharat Prasad Kandel, senior agriculture development officer at the District Agriculture Development Office, said although snowfalls crippled life, they have brought happiness and smiles on the face of farmers, contributing to crop and apple farming. RSS
