Govt forms High-Level Panels for SDGs implementation
Kathmandu / March 23: The government has formed nine separate committees for the coordination and effectiveness of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) implementation.
According to the National Planning Commission (NPC), the committees themselves can prepare their term of references and invite government officials and representatives of private and non-governmental sectors as the invitee members.
The thematic committees include Economic Development to be led by NPC Member Dr Swarnim Wagle, Industrial Development by Prof Dr Chandra Kanta Poudel, while Dr Sunil Babu Shrestha would lead the Urban Development committee.
Likewise, Prof Dr Gitabhakta Joshi gets the responsibility of Social Development, Dr Kripasindhu Prasad for Employment Generation and Management, Dr Prabhu Budhathoki for Agriculture Development, Climate Change and Environment Conservation and Prof Hirendra Man Pradhan would oversee the Infrastructure Development.
Dr Arbinda Kumar Mishra is the coordinator for Energy Development and NPC’s Secretariat Secretary Chandra Kumar Ghimire has been named the coordinator for Peace, Justice and Inclusive Committee.
The committees have been assigned the tasks to make planning, programme, policy, budget implementation, monitoring and evaluation.
The committees would submit their reports regularly to the Implementation and Coordination Committee led by NPC vice-chairman.
The United Nations had announced a total of 17 different SDGs on September 25, 2015 to be achieved by 2030. RSS
