Visiting Chinese Defense Minister Chang meets Prez Bhandari, DPM and CoAS; discuss security related issues

President and Chinese MinisterKathmandu / March 24: Chinese Defense Minister General Chang Wanquan has paid a courtesy call on President Bidya Devi Bhandari at Sheetal Niwas on Friday.

On the occasion, they discussed the issues of bilateral relations between Nepal and China, according to the Office of the President.

The Chinese delegation under the leadership of Chang is on a three-day formal visit to Nepal at the invitation of Minister for Defense, Bal Krishna Khand.

Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, Yu Hong, was also present on the occasion.

Meanwhile, Chinese Defence Minister General Chang Wanquan, who is on a three-day formal visit to Nepal, met with Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Bimalendra Nidhi at latter’s Ministry on Friday.

During the meeting, the duo are said to have agreed on further developing economy Nepal and China, strengthening their bilateral development activities and security arrangements.

The meeting also focused on increasing connectivity through road networks between the two countries and boosting capacity of their security agencies, said Home Secretary Lok Darshan Regmi.

As part of managing security along the borders of both Nepal and China, it has been discussed during the meeting that necessary information on border would be exchanged, while China would provide physical and technical assistances for building a training centre for Armed Police Force of Nepal.

The meeting also dwelt on the issues to resume Tatopani border point that has remained closed since the earthquake of April 25, 2015.

Chinese Defense Minister Wanquan arrived in Nepal on Thursday at the invitation of Defence Minister Bal Krishna Khand.

Similarly, Chinese Defence Minister and State Councilor, General Chang Wanquan has called on Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) Rajendra Chhetri at latter’s office at the Army Headquarters today.

According to Nepalese Army, Directorate of Public Relations, they held discussions on bilateral relations and cooperation. The armies of the two nations have harmonious relations since long.

Earlier, a contingent of Nepalese Army had presented a guard of honour to General Chang at the Army headquarters.

Similarly, the Chinese Defence Minister went to the Army pavilion at Tundikhel and offered bouquet to the statue of the ‘brave soldier’.

It may be noted that, he had paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Defence Minister Bal Krishna Khand on Thursday.

General Chang is also scheduled to pay a courtesy call on President Bidya Devi Bhandari and Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Bimalendra Nidhi today itself.

Chang had arrived here on a three-day official visit on Thursday leading a 19-member delegation at the invitation of Defence Minister Khand. RSS
