Florida man records massive black bear’s garage visit
Oct. 30: A Florida man captured video of a big black bear’s visit to his Seminole County garage, where it raided his refrigerator.
Brad Tamm of Longwood said he has seen bears before, but he had to capture video Monday when he saw the massive size of the bruin in his garage.
“Surprising. I really thought just a little bit of noise or just seeing me stand up, I think he would take off. But they are so conditioned to be around people and humans,” Tamm told WKMG-TV.
He said the bear was apparently not satisfied with the garbage cans lining the street ahead of pickup, so it came into his garage and opened his refrigerator.
“So he was in there and then he stood up on his hind legs and his head, I swear, his head, he was taller than me when I was inside of the office,” Tamm said.
Tamm opened a door and shouted at the bear until it left.
“I wasn’t scared. I don’t know why, but we should be scared of such an animal,” Tamm said.
Tamm said he usually keeps his garage door shut, which is a policy endorsed by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission for preventing unwanted bear encounters.
Experts said an uptick in bear sightings in the area is likely due to falling temperatures leading the animals to stock up on food ahead of hibernation. upi.com
