Govt announces relief to 22 cold-hit Tarai districts

cold-weatherKathmandu / Jan 8: The government has announced a relief package of Rs 22.2 million to 22 cold-hit Tarai districts.

The Home Ministry under the direction of Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba on Monday made the decision to send relief to the cold hit areas.

The Home Ministry will distribute blanket, firewood, among other warm materials, worth Rs 22.2 million in the 22 districts. The ministry has already made preparations to dispatch blankets and other materials left in the government stock to the affected districts today itself.

“A decision has been made to distribute a relief of Rs 22.2 million in 22 districts of the southern plain under the direction of the prime minister,” said Home Secretary Mohan Krishna Sapkota, adding that the distribution of relief will begin from today itself.

The Ministry has made provisions to distribute the relief package to the needy people based on the recommendation of districts-based Local Disaster Management Committees. The relief money will be doled out from Central Natural Disaster Relief Committee.

The ministry has also instructed the districts-based authorities to establish temporary shelters in schools and public buildings for the shelter to children and elderly people.
