Police have been commendable with maintaining security: PM Oli

Kathmandu / Oct 11: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli today pointed out that peace and security are the first steps for achieving prosperity. “The Nepal police should play an important role in implementing the campaign of ‘Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepalis’.

The police should be more responsible and active in the days ahead,” he said addressing an event organised by the Police Headquarters to mark the 63rd Police Day, today. He also vowed in the capacity of the head of the government to create an environment conducive for security agencies including the Nepal Police to work responsibly in the coming days.

“Country’s police have played a commendable role in maintaining internal security despite limited human resources,” said the PM. In another context, PM Oli said the government was serious about managing workforce in country’s various embassies abroad after making the police department professional and strengthened.

PM Oli shared that government was working to formulate the Federal Police Act to take police organization into the federal setup. He held the view that a police personnel should be exemplary and different from an ordinary citizen.

On the occasion, Inspector General (IG) of Nepal Police Sarbendra Khanal said that efforts are being undertaken to establish police organisation as a model one. IG Khanal asserted, “Nepal Police is capable of curbing any type of crime. It is imperative to invest time, energy and have patience to investigate into any crime cases.”

Khanal opined that one and all should cooperate with the police in maintaining law and order as well as peace. According to him, Nepal Police was discharging its duty nearly round the clock everyday in spite of limited available resources.

He shared that the Police Headquarters was going to launch civic-centric programmes in future, implementing the 82-point Home Administration Reform Work Plan issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA).

Also speaking on the occasion, former Additional Inspector General of Police Amar Singh Shah, who was awarded with the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ today, stated that police could manage the expectations of the public in crime controlling if it did not have any political pressure.

On the occasion, PM Oli distributed letter of honour to the families of the deceased police persons who lost their lives while on duty. Likewise, Nepal Police Wives Association President Pramila Khanal provided relief materials to the bereaved families of the deceased police persons.

It was shared that office assistants Hari Bahadur Gurung, Mahanta Chaudhary, Police Constables Raj Kumar Ale, Sher Singh Saud, Sushil Baniya, Pradeep Kumar Yadav, Ram Prasad Poudel, Bishnu Prasad Neupane, Police Head Constable Gajendra Singh Thagunna and Assistant Sub Inspector of Police Devendra Singh Dhami lost their lives in the line of duty.

Present on the event were Minister for Home Affairs Ram Bahadur Thapa, Attorney General Agni Kharel, Chief of Army Staff Purna Chandra Thapa, Secretary at the MoHA Prem Kumar Rai and chiefs of other security forces. RSS
