President Poudel issues four ordinances; PM Oli says he will not be involved in split and merge of any party

Kathmandu / Jan 13: President Ramchandra Poudel on Monday issued four ordinances as recommended by a Cabinet meeting on Friday night.

According to the office of the President, these ordinances aim to enhance governance, streamline public service delivery, and promote economic reforms.

The issued ordinances include Ordinance to Amend Some Nepal Acts Related to Promoting Good Governance and Public Service Delivery, 2025; Economic Procedure and Financial Accountability (First Amendment) Ordinance, 2025; Privatisation (First Amendment) Ordinance, 2025 and Ordinance to Amend Certain Nepal Acts Related to Improving Economic and Business Environment and Enhancing Investments, 2025.

While the opposition parties have been demanding the commencement of the winter session of the House for the discussion on various issues including passage of the bills required to make service delivery more efficient, the government however on Friday recommended the President to issue the ordinances.

I will not be involved in split and merge of any party: PM Oli

Amid speculations that the Government is trying to issue an Ordinance for splitting the political parties, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that it is not my job to divide and unite any party even though there is a need to amend the political party division related law.

Wishing on the newly elected official of the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) in a program organized at the official residence of Prime Minister, Baluwatar, PM Oli expressed his concern over the spread of lies and negativity that he wanted to bring an ordinance to divide the party and clarified that the merger or split of any party is an internal matter of that party.

In the past, when he was the prime minister, if there was a split in any party, he introduced an ordinance by arranging for 40 percent in both the parliamentary party and the central committee.

The PM said that previously due to the protest on the ordinance to at least have 40 per cent in the Central Committee or the parliamentary party split the party was replaced in line with having 20 per cent members of the parliament to split party was brought just to split the party when he was PM while clarifying that he had no intention of doing such a misdeed.

Prime Minister Oli stated that the government has recommended various ordinances to the President keeping in mind the development of the country and the service of the people, emphasizing that Nepali journalism needs to be protected from incidents such as a spread of foil information that the President of Nepali Congress Sher Bahadur Deuba opposed to bring an ordinance.

He emphasized that the FNJ needs to play a role in preventing the misuse of democracy as the people’s right to information will be cut off due to such information and news.
