Baglung sells oranges worth Rs 264.6 million


Baglung / Feb 1: Baglung district has produced oranges worth Rs 264.6 million this year. Despite a slight decline in production, farmers have received higher prices compared to last year.

The overall production decreased by 28 metric tons compared to last year. However, the value that the orange farmers got increased by Rs 18.6 million due to higher selling price this year, according to Information Officer of the Agricultural Knowledge Center Baglung, Santosh Adhikari.

Last year, 4,100 metric tons of oranges were produced in the district but this year it decreased to 4071 metric tons. However, last year, the minimum price was Rs 60 but this year it increased to Rs 65. Last year, oranges worth Rs 246 million were sold from the district.

This year the production decreased due to lack of timely rain and insufficient winter irrigation, said Adhikari.

According to the Agricultural Knowledge Center, orange is cultivated in an area of 655 hectares in the district. Out of this, orange plants planted in 377 hectares have yielded fruit this year. Oranges are produced in Baglung Municipality, Kathekhola Rural Municipality, Jaimini and Galkot Municipality in the district. RSS
