EC lifts code of conduct; RSP maintains strong lead in FPTP seats and proportional votes

Kathmandu / March 9: The Election Commission (EC) has lifted the code of conduct that had been in place for elections, effective from Monday midnight.

The decision was made in the EC’s Monday meeting, specifying that the code of conduct would no longer be in effect from 12:00 AM today.

The EC had originally imposed the code of conduct starting January 18 for the National Assembly elections on January 25 and the House of Representatives elections on March 5.

RSP maintains strong lead in FPTP seats and proportional votes

The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has maintained a commanding lead in the House of Representatives election, winning 124 seats and leading in one more constituency under the first-past-the-post (FPTP) system.

Of the 161 seats declared so far, the Nepali Congress has won 17 and is leading in one constituency, while the CPN-UML has won eight and is leading in one constituency. The Nepali Communist Party has secured seven seats under the FPTP category.

Under the proportional representation vote count so far, the RSP has secured 4,283,627 votes.

The Nepali Congress has garnered 1,423,997 votes in the proportional category, while the CPN-UML has secured 1,201,444 votes.

The Nepali Communist Party has received 633,713 votes under the proportional system.

The Shram Sanskriti Party has won three seats under FPTP and secured 308,656 proportional votes, while the Rastriya Prajatantra Party has won one seat and received 290,071 votes.

Among other parties, the Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal has secured 136,690 votes, while the Rastriya Pariwartan Party has garnered 131,218 votes in the proportional vote count so far.

Meanwhile, the vote counting result in Dhanusha-1 has been deferred following a dispute over whether to validate votes cast for RSP candidate Kishori Shah.

The Election Commission had declared Shah disqualified for the election two days before polling day, citing claims regarding his eligibility. The dispute over the validity of votes cast in his favour has delayed the final declaration of the result in the constituency.
