EC submits HoR election report to President; Newly-elected PR lawmakers receive certificates

Kathmandu / March 19: The Election Commission, Nepal, has submitted its report about the election of the members of the House of Representatives held on March 5 to President Ramchandra Paudel.
Officiating Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari submitted the report amidst a special function at the Office of the President, Shital Niwas.
On the occasion, President Paudel expressed happiness over the successful holding of the election by working day and night with full devotion, mind and action in the difficult and complex situation.
He thanked all including the EC, government employees for the success of the HoR poll.
President Paudel viewed that the holding of the election has strengthened democracy while enhancing confidence electoral system and the EC and that the EC has played its role very successfully by holding the HoR Election in a free, fair and impartial environment.
HoR Elections: Newly-elected PR lawmakers receive certificates
Lawmakers elected under the Proportional Representation (PR) system in the recent House of Representatives (HoR) elections received their certificates today at a ceremony held at the Election Commission’s central office in Bahadur Bhawan.
A total of 110 lawmakers were elected through the PR system. Officiating Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari, along with Commissioners Dr Janaki Kumari Tuladhar and Sagun Shumsher J.B. Rana, welcomed them with tika and garlands.
Election Commission Secretary and PR election officer Krishna Bahadur Raut distributed the certificates.
Under the PR system, 57 lawmakers were elected from the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), 20 from the Nepali Congress (NC), 16 from the CPN (UML), nine from the Nepali Communist Party (NCP), and four each from the Shram Sanskriti Party and the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP).
The Election Commission had announced the PR election results on March 16.
Under the First-Past-the-Post (FPTP) system, the RSP secured 125 seats, followed by the NC with 19, UML with 9, NCP with 8, Shram Sanskriti Party with 3, RPP with 1, and one independent candidate.
As per constitutional provisions, the House of Representatives, the lower house of the Federal Parliament, consists of a total of 275 members, including 165 elected through the FPTP system and 110 through the PR system. RSS
