Govt digital services made user-friendly with accessibility tools

Kathmandu / June 10: Public digital services including websites and apps are made equally accessible to all citizens including the differently able keeping easy and inclusive accessibility in mind and embedding accessible-friendly tools in the digital services.

Accessibility tools have been included in the government websites so that it is easy for users with sight difficulty, low sight ability, color blindness, reading difficulty, hearing difficulty, senior citizens and those in need of special facility.

According to Prakash Dawadi, information officer at the Department of Information Technology, all government websites have these services.

In point 30 of the 100-point reform agenda made public by the government in March it is mentioned that government apps and portals will be made easy to use even for citizens with disability and low technological knowledge.

The government has brought forth the facility to ensure equal accessibility of all citizens including people with disability and make right to information more effective.

Users can see accessibility tool icon at the bottom of the government website. Using this facility, users can adjust layout and content of the website as per their need that include font and font size change, color contrast increase, color filters.

According to the Department, the government websites have been enhanced in line with international standard, as per the web content accessibility guideline (WCAG).
