Tiger Census-2026: Tiger population reaches 429 in Nepal
Kathmandu / July 29: The population of tigers has reached 429 in the country, as per the latest census.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Forests and Environment made public the recent tiger census today on the occasion of the Global Tiger Day.
Minister for Agriculture, Forests and Environment, Gita Chaudhary, launched the Tiger Census Report-2026.
As per the census report, the population of tiger has reached 429 across the country, including 145 tigers in Chitwan National Park, 112 in Bardiya National Park, 71 in Parsa National Park, 51 in Banke National Park and 50 in Shuklaphanta National Park.
It is said that the population of tiger has increased following improvement in protected areas and habitat in recent period. Tiger census is conducted in every four years in Nepal.
In the tiger census conducted in 2022, the number of tiger was 355 in the country. The highest population of tiger was in Chitwan National Park with 128 while 125 in Bardiya National Park, 41 in Parsa National Park, 36 in Shuklaphanta National Park and 25 in Banke National Park in 2022.
The Ministry has been carrying out tiger census in every four years since 2009. Nepal was the home of 121 tigers in 2010, 198 in 2014 and 235 in 2018.
The Global Tiger Day is observed every year on July 29. With the rapid decline in tiger population, the Tiger Summit held at St. Petersburg of Russia in 2010 declared to observe the Day on July 29 with an objective of stop such situation and protect their natural habitat. RSS
