Eight-lane ring-road in 10 years

Kathmandu Ring RoadKathmandu / April 2: The Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport has said the existing 27-km ring road will be expanded to eight lanes within 10 years.

The task of expanding 10.39-km Kalanki-Koteswor section of ring road to eight lanes that started from 2070 BS will be completed within coming nine months.

Ministry’s Foreign Division Chief Bishnu Om Bade told RSS that remaining 17-km of the road section will also be expanded to eight lanes within 10 years after the Chinese government agreed to provide additional support for the same in course of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s recent China visit.

The task of expanding four cemented bridges along the Kalanki-Koteswor ring road section to eight lanes has started. The construction of 62-metre wide 8-lane bridge has begun in Manohara, Bagmati and Balkhu rivulets. Two bridges are under construction in Balkhu while one each in Kalanki and Balkumari, according to the Ministry.

Road Division’s senior divisional engineer and Ring Road Improvement Project Chief Laxmi Dutta Bhatta said, “The ring road improvement project has taken pace of late. It has to be completed by coming January 17. The Chinese government is investing Rs 5 billion for road and bridges”.

The existing 27-km ring road was also constructed with the assistance of Chinese government in 2027 BS. RSS
