Senior composer Gurung feted
Kathmandu / April 13: Musician, composer and singer rolled into one- Ambar Gurung- has been feted with the ‘Gyan Bahadur Memorial Music Award’ amidst a programme in the capital city on Wednesday.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence Bhim Rawal handed over the award to Gurung in a programme organized by Srota Samaj. The Award, carrying a purse worth Rs 25,000, is set up in memory of senior musician late Gyan Bahadur Shrestha.
On the occasion, DPM Rawal announced that the government was still willing to support Gurung, who was under medication in India until recently.
The government had decided to bear all medical expenses of veteran singer and composer Gurung for his invaluable contribution to Nepali music and society over six decades of his careers. Gurung has been suffering Parkinson’s disease and diabetes.
“We are honored by the presence of Ambar Gurung despite his ailing health,” said DPM Rawal, stating that the new generation should be encouraged to listen to the music and songs composed and sung by Gurung.
Gurung, who has given music to more than 100 Nepali songs, has also composed music for the current national anthem. The event saw the presence of poets, musicians and lyricists. RSS
