Five farmers receive President Excellence Award
Banepa / May 3: The government awarded top performing farmers of Central Development Region amid a function organized in Dhulikhel on Tuesday.
Minister for Agricultural Development Haribol Gajurel gave away President Excellence Awards to top performing farmers of the central region.
Ghana Nath Mahato of Madi-2, Chitwan, received President Excellence Award in recognition of his outstanding performance in banana farming. Similarly, Rita Thakuri of Chitlang-2, Makawanpur, received the award for her involvement in production of cheese from goat milk. Similarly, Rangdan Tamang of Daduwa-2 of Ramechhap received the award for fruit farming, Shyam Bahadur Khadka of Bhimeshwor-10 of Dolakha for kiwi farming and Dhurba Raj Biswakarma of Benighat-2, Dhading, for fishery.
The award carries a purse of Rs 35,000 cash and letter of appreciation. Likewise, three farmers of Kavre have received district-level awards. Kedar Prasad Sapkota (production of vegetable seeds) of Panchkhal-11, Rudra Bahadur Bishunkhe of Methinkot (production of hybrid tomatoes) and Machhendra Shrestha of Ugrachandi Nala-4 (vegetables farming) received cash prize of Rs 10,000 each and letter of appreciation.
President Excellence Award was presented to only 13 farmers this year, according to officials of Central Regional Directorate of Agriculture. Likewise, 39 farmers received district-level awards in the central development region.
Protest in Tarai districts affected selection of recipients of President Excellence Award at the district and regional level in Bara, Parsa, Rautahat Sarlahi, Dhanusha and Mahottari, according to the officials of Central Regional Directorate of Agriculture.
