CBS starts urban survey
Kathmandu / May 22: The Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) has started conducting urban survey across 217 municipalities in the country with an object to take stock of the economic and social conditions of the people in these areas.
The survey, which is being conducted after a hiatus of three years, will attempt to look into the state of physical infrastructures, education, health and lifestyles of the people, said Dr Rudra Suwal, Deputy Director General at Social Statistics Division of CBS.
The number of municipalities jumped from 58 to 217 in three years. Those places exceeding 10,000 people in population were declared municipalities despite the fact those places lacked basic amenities as electricity and road, shared Dr Suwal.
“The survey will aim to study what kind of municipalities came into being after the declaration,” he said, adding that the result of the survey will be made public in due course of time.
There are currently a Metropolitan City, 12 Sub-Metropolitan cities and 204 municipalities.
Various 60 questionnaires seeking to draw information on education, migration, employment and income and the like have been prepared to ask every household in the municipalities, according to the CBS.
The survey is expected to understand the social and economic state of the urban populace and areas which is believed to be useful in formulating strategies in urban planning and development. RSS
