Budget focused on physical infrastructure; Economic survey to be presented tomorrow

government logoKathmandu / May 25: The National Planning Commission (NPC) has noted that the budget for the fiscal year 2073-74 BS has laid top priority to the development of physical infrastructure in the country.

Talking about budget priorities, NPC member Dr Sumitra Amatya said, “High emphasis has been laid on physical infrastructure, road, rail and transport management. Infrastructure has been given topmost priority as it is the foundation of development’.

The construction of physical infrastructure will be safe and environment-friendly, the NPC stated. The budget will give focus on the reforms of structural capacity.

She further said that the capacity of the transport management department will be increased for the improvement of rampant transport system across the country including the capital city of Nepal.

The Rasuwagadhi-Kathmandu-Pokhara-Lumbini rail service will be taken ahead as a national pride project. The budget will lay special emphasis on the road that connects economic centre and the seven provinces. Likewise, the Kathmandu-Nijgadh fast track construction will also be emphatically taken ahead.

She shared that a hefty amount of budget has been allocated to the Ministry of Federal Affairs and Local Development for the replacement of tuin (rope way) across the country.

Meanwhile, the government is presenting the economic survey depicting the entire economic indicators and aspects of the current fiscal year in the Legislature-parliament meeting tomorrow.

Finance Minister Bishnu Poudel is scheduled to present the survey at the parliament on Thursday, said Assistant Spokesperson at the Parliament Secretariat, Sudarshan Kuikel.

The survey also reviews the faults on the implementation of the policy and programmes and budget of the current fiscal year and indentifies the challenges.

The government is bringing the budget for the coming fiscal year on May 28 as per the constitutional provision.

According to the parliament secretariat, various bills including Banking (Crime and Punishment) First Amendment-2071 would be presented in the parliament. RSS
