Women should unite for implementation of the constitution: Speaker Gharti
Kathmandu / May 29: Speaker Onsari Gharti Magar today said that all women should unite for the implementation of the new constitution.
Speaking at a programme organised to mark the 21st establishment day of the Forum for Women, Law and Development (FWLD) in the capital, the Speaker stressed the need for women to work together to enforce their rights granted by the constitution, while continuing to fight for other rights. “There is nothing that women should be so worried about as the constitution has accommodated many rights. Rather they should come together to implement the rights that have been achieved,” she said.
She added that it was the responsibility of all women to institutionalise their rights achieved from various women movements in the past.
On the occasion, Minister for Livestock Development Shanta Manabi lauded the role of women rights activists in helping women get their rights, pointing out the need for women to move ahead hand-in-hand in the days to come for their other rights.
Advocate Mira Dhungana also stressed the need for all women to stand together to ensure their rights.
On the occasion, Prakash Mani Sharma working in the field of women’s reproductive health for long was honoured with the ‘Laxman women rights award-2016’. The award carries a cash prize of Rs 25,000. RSS
