Implementation of Media Policy will not be affected : Minister Rai

Media ReportKathmandu / July 26: Minister for Information and Communications, Sherdhan Rai, has said that the changed political scenario would not have any effect on the implementation of the National Media Policy-2073.

At a discussion with High-Level Committee members related to the National Media Policy on Tuesday, Minister Rai claimed that there would be no problem in implementation of the Media Policy as it was brought by consulting and forging consensus among all sides. The meeting of Council of Ministers on July 22 had approved the Media Policy.

Stating that introduction of the first media policy as per the aspiration of the new constitution was historic achievement, he thanked all including the Committee members for it. The Committee had submitted its report to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on July 20.

Minister Rai further said that a mechanism was necessary for the implementation and monitoring of the policy.

Similarly, Communications Secretary Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya said that the Ministry played a significant role in making sector-wise policy after promulgation of the new constitution.

Stating that the policy was brought in order to promote national welfare, Committee Chairman Kashiraj Dahal said that some laws should be amended for its implementation.

President of the Federation of the Nepali Journalists, Dr Mahendra Bista, expressed the view that the Committee carried out its work making the media sector satisfied. RSS
