Gangamaya resumes fast-onto-death

Kathmandu / Aug 11: Gangamaya Adhikari, who has been struggling since long demanding justice to her son murdered during the Maoist insurgency in the country, has resumed fast-onto-death.

Adhikari announced that she was keeping herself away from medicines and saline water from Thursday to mount pressure on the government to address her demand.

She has given an ultimatum of five days to the government to bring the killer (s) of her son to book.

Earlier on August 5, Gangamaya urged the government to respond to her demand within five days, stating that otherwise she would resume hunger strike.

Though a government secretary-level team comprising Narayan Gopal Malego (Home Affairs) and Senendra Raj Upreti (Health ) visited her today at Bir Hospital’s cabin no 6, she did not put forth any matter before them.

She along with her husband Nanda Prasad had sat for a fast-onto-death, demanding justice to their murdered son, but Nanda Prasad died on July 5, 2014 in 334th day of the agitation. Gangamaya agreed to break her hunger strike and survived on medicines and saline water after the demise of her spouse.

Nanda Prasad’s body is still at the Maharajgunj-based Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital. The Adhikari family has refused to receive the body until they got justice.

Krishna Prasad, the youngest son of the Adhikari couple from Fujel of Gorkha, was allegedly killed by then Maoist rebels after abduction on June 6, 2004 as he was in Chitwan to meet his grandparents.

Though the Office of District Attorney, Chitwan has filed a FIR at the Chitwan District Court against Chhabilal Poudel, Bhimsen Poudel, Januka Poudel and Parshuram on the charge of the murdering Krishna Prasad, there is no progress on the case yet. RSS
