SC fiat against granting cash to disqualified former combatants

Kathmandu / Aug 24: The Supreme Court (SC) has stayed implementation of the government’s decision to grant Rs 200,000 each to the disqualified ex-combatants associated to the then People’s Liberation Army of the CPN-Maoist.

A single bench of Justice Gopal Parajuli on Wednesday has issued interim order in the name of the government not to implement the decision to grant Rs 200,000 each to the disqualified ex-combatants.

“Do not implement the point number 19 of the Budget for the Fiscal year 2073-74 BS (2016-17 AD) for now”, the SC ruling reads. The budget has an arrangement to provide Rs 200,000 each to the disqualified ex-combatants.

A meeting has been set for 30 September for further discussion to this effect.

On last August 15, as many as 131 conflict survivors including Gyanendra Raj — son of Tikaraj Aran of Puranagaun,Ramechhap who was killed by Maoists during the armed conflict — had filed a writ at the apex court challenging legality of the government’s decision to grant Rs 200,000 each to the disqualified ex-combatants.
