Impeachment motion filed against CIAA Chief Karki

Kathmandu / Oct 19: More than 150 lawmakers of CPN-UML and CPN Maoist Centre have filed an impeachment motion against the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority Chief Lok Man Singh Karki.

UML Chief Whip Bhanubhakta Dhakal confirmed that the motion was registered at the Parliament Secretariat this evening.

Just today, the Parliament had formed an 11-member Impeachment Recommendation Committee. Earlier, on Tuesday, the Supreme Court had pasted a notice at his Baneshwar-based house to summon him over a case that has challenged his appointment at the constitutional body.

A case is sub-judice at the apex court against Karki’s appointment at the CIAA. Advocate Om Prakash Aryal had challenged Karki’s appointment as CIAA Chief at the court claiming the appointment was unlawful as his tenure in government service “falls short of what has been provisioned in the constitution and he does not hold high moral character to lead the CIAA”.
