Lawmakers arrive in Rolpa to stamp out child marriage
Rolpa / Dec 4: A team of lawmakers arrived in Rolpa on Saturday in order to help stamp out the practises of child marriage.
A delegation of the National Forum of Parliamentarians for Population and Development (NFPPD) addressed a programme held under the slogan ‘Our joint effort in eliminating child marriage’.
NFPPD Nepal Chairman and Nepali Congress lawmaker, Mahalaxmi Upadhyay ‘Dina’ and lawmakers Sarita Prasai and Amar Singh Pun have arrived in Rolpa.
Lawmaker Dina noted that child marriages took place in the society due to religious and social values and beliefs, family pressure, poverty, unemployment, illiteracy, child labour and gender discrimination.
She added that child marriage has negative effects on children’s education, health and the socio-economic aspects.
Child marriage eradication campaign has been launched in 23 VDCs of Rolpa by District Development Office, VDC, Women and Children Office, UNFPA Nepal, District Child Welfare Committee and Save the Children among other organizations. RSS
