‘Women health volunteers contributions important’

fchvKathmandu / Dec 5: Minister for Health Gagan Kumar Thapa has said that the women health volunteers are the bridges between the Health Ministry and the general public.

Addressing a programme organized here on Monday to mark the 13th National Women Volunteers Day-2073 BS, he appreciated the significant contributions of women health volunteers in delivering the health programmes in a successful manner.

He said the Ministry is positive in imparting further training and incentives to the women health volunteers in view of their widening scope of work.

On the occasion, Minister of State for Health Taraman Gurung echoed Minister Thapa’s opinion while stressing the need of providing basic services to the women health volunteers in recognition of their performance.

Likewise, Health Secretary Dr Senendra Raj Uprety said that the network of women health volunteers was useful to reach out the basic health services to the villages.

The Health Ministry has been implementing Women Health Volunteer Programme to ensure people’s participation in health services since 1989. As many as 51,470 women volunteers are providing health services under the programme which is being implemented in all the 75 districts. RSS
