Financial support trickles in for Amar bringing new hope

Jajarkot, Jan 4: A Nepali couple in Britain has extended financial support for a teenager who has remained bed-ridden for the past 17 years.

Khem Sherchan and his wife, Gita Giri Sherchan, of Myagdi and currently living in Britain, extended Rs 20,000 in assistance for treatment of Amar Agri, who comes from a squatter family. A report on Amar has also helped in drawing the support but more is needed.

Jajarkot’s Chief District Officer, Janardhan Gautam, on Tuesday handed over the money to the family.

Amar has remained in a state of paralysis since his birth with immobile hands and legs. He is deaf and dumb, and has remained bed-ridden for the past 17 years.

Amar’s situation has been aggravated following the death of his mother. His parents have not been able to seek medical treatment due to lack of money, and had repeatedly turned to shamans for help. Amar has three brothers and five sisters in the house. The family lives in a small makeshift shelter at a public land property. His father, Jane Agri, has received an identity card from the government, but no other support. RSS
