NRA to immediately address grievances of around 87,000 quake-survivors; On-site survey and documentation by Feb 11

Kathmandu / Jan 13: National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) has pledge to address as many as 87 thousand grievances received from the quake-survivors across the country.

According to the Authority’s Secretary Dr Sanjaya Sharma, the Authority which has received around 200,000 complaints from quake-hit persons will look into the 87,000 complaints to begin with.

Secretary Sharma said so at a programme organized by the National Elections Observer Committee here today.

The Committee which conducted research among 2,000 people in three of the 14 hardest-hit districts- Dolakha, Gorkha and Sindhupalchowk- mentions in its report that the quake-hit locals in these districts were not satisfied with the financial, legal and technical support of the Authority.

Meanwhile, the Central Grievances Hearing Committee under the National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) has said that it will address the grievances of the quake-survivor beneficiaries left out to be registered in the Authority’s record by 11 February.

The meeting of the Committee held on Thursday decided to assign the Central Project Implementation Unit under the Ministry of Federal Affairs and Local Development to conduct on-site visit for carrying out survey, documentation and authentication of such beneficiaries.

The meeting has recommended the Unit to look into the grievances relating to 18,500 quake-survivor beneficiaries and 30,925 non-beneficiaries, and to conduct on-site visits to 17,654 quake-hit households and authenticate 3,432 households on-site by February11, according to NRA Joint-Spokesperson Dr Bhisma Kumar Bhusal.

The meeting has also issued directive to the respective VDCs and municipalities to publish the names of those verified beneficiaries as the Unit finishes doing the needful.

The next meeting of the Committee will decide on the grievances received for retrofitting of the 19,866 quake-damaged houses in the worst hit 14 districts, said Joint-Spokesperson Dr Bhusal.

The Authority will call for collaboration from non-profit making organizations for awareness campaign, encouraging local’s participation in the reconstruction, mobilization of volunteers and publicity. RSS
