Reconstruction works yet to start in 10 VDCs of Kavre

Nepal Reconstruction AuthorityBanepa / Jan 30: Post-earthquake reconstruction works are yet to commence in ten village development committees (VDCs) of Kavrepalanchok, one of the 14 districts most affected by the Gorkha Earthquake.

Rebuilding works have not taken place yet at 10 VDCs including Gokule, Madankundari, Phalametar, Phalante, Sisakhani, Thulo Parsel and Phoksingtar due to lack technical human resources and skilled workers, and as these VDCs lie in the remote parts, Department of Urban Development and Building Construction Division Office in the district said.

Office Chief Astalal Suwal said the resignation of engineers in the past was one of the reasons behind a delay in commencing reconstruction works in these villages. The Office was preparing to begin the works in these villages very soon, he added.

Chief District Officer Shiba Shimkhada said there was just a 28 percent progress in the reconstruction works in the district, insisting on the need to expedite the drive.

Besides, earthquake survivors of Phalante and Bhumlutar VDCs are facing difficulty to draw the first instalment of the house rebuilding grants announced by the government as they do not have official registration documents of land they residing on. Issue of landless squatters was one of the factors hindering the reconstruction drive, CDO Simkhada said.

However, rebuilding efforts are going on in other villages and municipalities in full-swing. RSS
