NHRC concerned over Saptari incident

Kathmandu / March 7: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has expressed serious concern over the clash between the cadres of the united democratic Madhesi front (UDMF) and security persons over the Monday’s programme organized by the CPN-UML at Rajbiraj.

Issuing a press release on Tuesday, NHRC Spokesperson Mohana Ansari said it was a grave incident which claimed the lives of three persons and dozens other were injured. The government needs to take action against the guilty ones with fair probe, she said, demanding the government to provide relief and compensation to the families of the dead ones, ensure treatment to the injured ones.

According to her, the NHRC has already mobilized a monitoring team from the Regional Office, Biratnagar, to collect facts and details about the injured and the dead ones. The political parties have been urged to exercise utmost restraint while conducting the party activities.

Meanwhile, the NHRC has demanded that the government provide employment to the families of the security persons killed in the Tikapur carnage of Bhadra 2072. Education to their children is essential, added the NHRC.

Moreover, the NHRC concluded that the incident took place in Tikapur of Kailali because of irresponsibility of security persons. Deputy Inspector General of Armed Police Force, Khada Nand Chaudhari and Superintendent of Police Laxman Bahadur Singh have been demanded departmental action.

Similarly, NHRC said tension ran high in Kailali after the provocative remarks of Chairman of Nepal Sadbhavana Party, Rajendra Mahato, Chairman of Federal Socialist Forum, Upendra Yadav, NC lawmaker Amresh Kumar Singh and CPN (Maoist-Centre) leader Dev Gurung.

Demand to form high level probe committee

Meanwhile, the Nepali Congress parliamentarians representing Province No 2 have met separately with Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Bimalendra Nidhi and demanded them to form a high level committee to probe the Saptari incident.

Condemning the incident which claimed the lives of three persons, they demanded that the one opening fire at people be suspended.

The PM and DPM were further demanded that they take action against the guilty ones, provided compensation to the families of the deceased and ensured free treatment of the injured ones, said NC lawmaker Ranjit Karna.

In response, PM Dahal expressed grief over the incident and urged for assistance from all sides to bring the situation to normal.

Similarly, DPM Nidhi said he had already directed for the free treatment of the injured ones. RSS
