ECN committed to holding election on time: Election Commissioner Shah; Voter education training for regional trainers starts in Pokhara
Butwal / March 26: Election Commissioner Sudhir Kumar Shah has reaffirmed that the Election Commission of Nepal (ECN) is determined to hold upcoming local level election on time i.e. on May 14 this year.
Talking to media persons during the two-day Training of Trainers (TOT) organized by the Commission in Butwal today, Commissioner Shah shared that the estimated 360,000 candidates would contest in the upcoming election which is taking place after 20 years.
“Preparations are underway in the Commission to hold election on May 14 although the Commission has got only 83 days to undertake the responsibility of holding it in a free, fair and impartial manner,” said Shah, adding that the purchase of some 25,000 ballot boxes, publication of voter identity cards and ballot papers are expedited.
He also shared that trainings on voter education are also being conducted in various 21,000 voting centres in the country so as to encourage as many as many as eligible voters to cast their votes.
According to him, the volunteers would be mobilized for the door-to-door campaign to educate voters on ballot paper and casting their votes correctly.
Voter education training for regional trainers starts in Pokhara
Meanwhile, Voter education training for regional trainers has started in Pokhara, Kaski keeping in view of upcoming local level elections slated for May 14.
Organised by the Regional Election Office, Pokhara, a total of 70 trainers from various 12 districts including Gulmi, Palpa of Lumbini zone and other 10 districts of Dhauwalagiri have participated in the training, said election office chief Ganga Lal Subedi.
The participating trainers include from different offices including district election officers, secondary level women social teachers, resource persons at District Education Office, social officers and social section officer at District Coordination Committee.
The trainers are bound to share skills and knowledge gained from the training with volunteers to be employed at village level for the polls as part of voter education programme, said Subedi.
The programme aims to decease invalid votes and encourage the participation of as many as voters in the elections, he said, adding that volunteers would be employed for one month beginning April 9 for the programme. RSS
