DPM Nidhi hands over Rs 1 million to family of Saha; Constitution for nationality: DPM

Bimalendra NidhiBiratnagar / March 27: Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister, Bimalendra Nidhi, on the behalf of the government, handed over a cheque amounting to one million rupees to Urmila Devi Saha, wife of Basudev Saha of Amahi Bariyati-7 in Morang district. Basudev was shot dead by two members of the Seema Surakshya Bal of India by entering the Nepali territory on May 25, 2010.

At a programme organised at the District Administration Office, Morang, to handover the cheque, Regional Administrator of eastern region, Rajeshowrman Shrestha, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Ramesh Prasad Bhattarai, DIG of Armed Police Force, Janakiraj Bhattarai, Chief District Officer Yagyaraj Koirala, the victim family and media persons were present.

Extending condolence to the victim family, DPM Nidhi said that although the compensation could not be comparable to the life of the person, it was provided for the support of the members of the bereaved family.

He said that the compensation was provided to the family of the Saha based on the information provided by the District Administration Office, Morang, that an incident had occurred in Morang district six years ago similar to the incident of killing of Govinda Gautam of Kanchanpur.

The DPM also urged the concerned regional police office to hire two sons of Saha as Myadi (temporary) police personnel if they wish so.

Constitution for nationality: DPM

Meanwhile, DPM Nidhi said that the constitution was promulgated to strengthen nationality and democracy.

At a programme organised to mark the sixth anniversary of New Shristi Daily to be published from Biratnagar, here on Monday, he expressed the belief that newspapers and media persons should play the role of a bridge between the people and government.

Saying attempts were on to make the constitution acceptable to all, DPM Nidhi said that talks and discussion were on to take the Madhesi Morcha, Tharus and indigenous nationalities into confidence. However, all should work to create environment conducive to hold three-tier elections on the scheduled date, added DPM Nidhi. RSS
