PM Deuba off to NY to attend UN General Assembly
Kathmandu / Sept. 19:Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba on Tuesday left for New York, United States of America, to attend the 72nd United Nations (UN) General Assembly. This is the second foreign visit of Deuba after he assumed the post of Prime Minister on June 6.
Leaders from around the globe will address the UN General Assembly in New York this week.
According to foreign ministry officials, Deuba decided to attend the UN General Assembly after he was advised to do so citing that there had not been any visit by Nepal’s Prime Minister for the past two years. PM Deuba will address the UNGA on September 23.
In his address, PM Deuba, who is also the President of Nepali Congress, will talk about contemporary political situation of Nepal and constitution implementation, among other issues. At least 193 countries will take part in the assembly.
On the sidelines of the UNGA, the PM Deuba will have bilateral meetings with leaders of various countries. He will return home on September 18.
The theme of the Debate of the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly is ‘Focusing on People – Striving for Peace and a Decent Life for All on a Sustainable Planet.’
