NRA’s assistance to quake survivors to purchase winter clothes, repair houses
Jhapa / Jan 16: The National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) has allocated money for the survivors of the April 2015 earthquake in Jhapa district to purchase warm clothes and repair their houses.
The total 811 quake-affected families are entitled each to receive the total Rs 25,000 in cash for the purpose (Rs 10,000 to purchase warm clothes, and Rs 15,000 for house repair), as stated in a meeting of the district disaster management committee held today under the chairmanship of the officiating chief district officer Krishna Raj Poudel.
Likewise, the Home Ministry has also provided blankets and firewood worth Rs 1 million for them, said the District Administration Office, Jhapa.
Meanwhile addressing an event organized to mark the 20th Earthquake Day, Binod Poudel, engineer for the district division office of the Department of Urban Development and Building Construction stressed the need for using efficient and skilled construction manpower and quality construction materials to build earthquake resilient houses. He also underscored the need for creating awareness of people’s safety during the quake.
He presented a paper on quake safety at the event. The paper includes 10 big quakes occurred during the period of 680 years from 1310 to 1990 B.S. It also speaks of the April 2015 quake. The event with the theme of ‘efficient community and local governance: strong basis for earthquake safety’ was attended by people’s representatives, chiefs of various government offices, security personnel and media-persons.
