EC allocates election symbols to political parties for NA election; EC distributes certificates to provincial assembly PR winners

Election CommissionKathmandu / Jan 19: The Election Commission (EC) has allocated election symbols to the 21 political parties that have registered with the EC for the National Assembly (NA) elected slated for February 7.

Accordingly, CPN-UML has been allocated ‘the Sun’, Nepali Congress ‘Tree’, CPN (Maoist Centre) ‘Hammer and Sickle inside a Circle’, Sanghiya Samajbadi Forum Nepal ‘A Hand carrying a Torch’, and Rastriya Janata Party Nepal ‘Umbrella’ as the election symbol.

Likewise, Nepal Sanghiya Samajbadi Party has been given ‘Bus’, Nepal Majdoor Kisan Party ‘the Madal’, Sanghiya Lokatantrik Rastriya Manch the ‘Khukuri placed inside a sheath’, Bahujan Shakti Party ‘Jug’, Nepal Pariwar Dal ‘Key’, Rastriya Janamorcha ‘A Glass’ and Nepal Naulo Janabadi Party, ‘A pigeon carrying a letter in its beak’, as the election symbol.

Similarly, Rastriya Prajatantra Party Prajatantrik has been allotted ‘Plough within a Circle),Bibeksheel Sajha Party ‘A Pan Balance’, Naya Shakti Party Nepal ‘the left eye’, Nepal Dalit Party ‘a Well’, Rastriya Prajatantra Party ‘the Cow’, Bahujan Samaj Party Nepal, a Giraffe’, Gnadhibadi Party Nepal ‘a Sheep’, Nepal Janata Dal ‘the Wheel of a Bullock Cart’, and Rastriya Mukti Aandolan Nepal the ‘Hexagram’ as the election symbol.

The number of voters in the election is 2056 and they will elect eight persons from each province. The Chiefs and Deputy Chiefs of the Rural Municipalities and Municipalities and the Province Assembly members make electoral college for the NA election.

Besides those elected by the electoral college, the President will nominate three more members to the 59-member National Assembly on the recommendation of the government.

The National Assembly is the Upper House of the bicameral federal parliament. The Lower House of parliament is called the House of Representatives. RSS

EC distributes certificates to provincial assembly PR winners

Meanwhile, the Election Commission (EC) has distributed certificate of victory to the winners of the elections to the Provincial Assembly under the proportional representation (PR) category amid a function in the Capital on Friday. The elections were held on November 26 and December 7.

The EC on Wednesday announced winners of the elections, 42 days after the completion of the second phase of elections.

The EC’s declaration of PR results to the state assembly came shortly after the government appointed the provincial chiefs and temporary headquarters of the each province.

The CPN-UML has topped the PR chart by securing a total of 75 seats, followed by the NC with 72 and the CPN (Maoist Centre) with 35, while the remaining seats went to other parties with a total of 13 parties getting at least one seat.

Under the PR category, 220 candidates have been elected out of 550 strong provincial assembly members in seven provinces.
