Registration number to be displayed inside public vehicles
Kathmandu / June 1: All types of public vehicles operating in Kathmandu Valley should, as a rule, display their registration number inside the vehicle as well for the passengers to easily see it. This provision was initiated by Metropolitan Traffic Police Division.
At a press meet organised at the Division today, it was informed that the provision of putting up registration number inside the vehicles was made for the convenience of passengers.
Senior Superintendent of Police at the Division, Basanta Kumar Panta, said that the provision was made to ensure safety of goods and convenience of passengers, in view of the increasing incidents of passengers forgetting their belongings inside public vehicles.
Meanwhile, he also informed that the Division was going to make lane-discipline strict, give priority to zebra crossing, and render traffic management safe, disciplined and systematic.
Panta further said that the Division was going to strictly implement the 82-point Home Administration Reform Plan of the Home Ministry and 10-point priority of the Division.
Likewise, the Division informed that it would take action against vehicles violating traffic rules, taxis not installing printer and charging exorbitant fare, along with launching traffic public awareness programmes at schools, colleges and different organisations.
Presently, there are 1.132 million vehicles operating in Kathmandu Valley. According to statistics of the Division, a total of 149 people lost their lives to road accidents in Kathmandu during 10 months of fiscal 2074/75 BS, out of which 117 were males and 32 females.
Meanwhile, action was taken against 378,927 vehicles in the current fiscal year, according to the Division. RSS
